Flow

Off Wing's latest release "Flow" is catchy and anthemic, reminiscent of the British rock that captured the world's attention in the late 70s and 80s. The vibe is akin to The Clash's "I'm lost in the Supermarket" yet with a relaxed, beachy twist. To be completely transparent, my initial notes on the single say "The Clash had a baby with Sublime?" and I'm sticking to it.

Originating in Massachusetts, the three man band consists of Conor O'Reilly (vocal, guitar), Matt Fitzgerald (bass) and Matt Clouiter (percussion). They describe themselves as a "surfy garage rock trio" and certainly have the laid back sound to match. However, this newest release brings a fresh, exciting tone to their repertoire, leaving us with a single that feels grungy and confident.

Met with a striking guitar entrance, "Flow" starts off incredibly strong, setting the tone for the next three minutes and immediately drawing the listener in. The guitar runs are the perfect blend of clean and crisp, not to mention catchy. In terms of balance, the support from the bassline and percussion round out the melodies well, lending a groove that feels fluid and non-restrictive, delivering even more of that chill, beachy vibe I mentioned earlier. Conor O'Reilly's vocal delivery is very relaxed, letting consonants blend as the words flow easily. By combining nonchalant vocals with clear cut instrumentals, Off Wing captivates the listener with a distinct and memorable sound.

I highly recommend having a dance party alone in your room today and blasting "Flow" in your headphones. Though if you'd prefer to party in public, Off Wing is performing live at The Middle East in Massachusetts on October 1st, 2021 with tickets available here. Until then check out "Flow" on Spotify and Apple Music.
