Push Me

Jolted by a lack of female rock band representation and recognition, Tarah Who?'s newest release "Push Me" featuring YUR MUM, challenges the current music industry norms. Like many great artists do, when faced with an obstacle, Tarah Who? utilizes art as a form of commentary and resistance. Driven by the hope of a future grammy for female rock bands, "Push Me" has just the right amount of grit and power to get the ball rolling.

Entering with cheeky dialogue, you hear a voice say “start from the beginning then” and an immediate strong instrument entrance. The juxtaposition of the spoken word with a raucous electric guitar solo is incredibly exciting and we’re only three seconds into the song. Soon percussion and vocals join the mix, elevating the already thrilling energy. Lyrically, the writing serves as a letter to the music industry, specifically award shows and how they leave out female rock groups. “You can’t just leave us out” and “you’ve pushed me to raise my voice” are some of the many statements that ring out throughout ”Push Me”. It’s admirable that Tarah Who? and YUR MUM maintain such a high energy rock sound while getting a clear, concise message across without minimizing their musicianship in the process. Here’s to hoping that “Push Me” can inspire change and create new visibility for femme rockers everywhere.
