Right Back to You

Tucked away in a closet, unsent love letters from a past road trip across the United States inspired the songs on Bennett's brand new EP Love Letters. In a year where most of us can understand being far away from someone we love, the song "Right Back to You" has deep relatability. It has a strong resounding heartbeat, blending Hip Hop, R&B and Pop with an emotional pull.

A sweet finger-picked guitar interlude introduces us to the song, bringing a sense of longing to the piece right away. Fret slides are accentuated between the arpeggiated notes, utilizing the raw sound to add rhythmic dimension. It's nice to see an artist use fingerboard noise to their advantage, instead of avoiding or editing it out. As Bennett's voice comes through, Electronic production is added to the mix, followed by the infectious groove of a moombahton beat. I've noticed pop music leaning into that groove more and more in the past years -- Justin Bieber's "Sorry and Drake's "One Dance" are two popular examples. The beat pays homage to Afro-Caribbean influences like reggae and dance hall music. YRU VEXxD's feature on the track is a clean standout moment, fitting smoothly in the mix and leading back into the sung vocal line seamlessly. Even with such a strong hitting groove, "Right Back to You" maintains a softness, leaving room for the emotional intent of the story.

As of today, you can give it a listen on Bennett's new EP Love Letters, available on www.imbennettmusic.com, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon. With such poetic, relatable inspiration, maybe the album can be healing for those of us still missing someone.
