When I lived in California, I had a playlist dedicated to sitting in the sun with my eyes closed. Songs like “Amber” by 311, “Burn the House Down” by AJR and Weezer’s 2000s hit, “Island in the Sun” were the soundtrack to my time outdoors. The kind of song where you can smell sunscreen and salty beach waves the second it hits your ears.
Jacob Giaimo’s new single, "Sun Support,” encapsulates this feeling perfectly. It’s exactly the kind of song I want blasting as I drive down PCH with the windows open. His voice has a rasp and warmth that blends incredibly well with the bright guitar underscoring and electric solos dispersed between verses. The track feels adjacent to Y2k summer jams like "Every Morning" by Sugar Ray but with a fresh sound that ties in present day trends. In a world where butterfly clips and cargo pants are making a comeback, "Sun Support" brings the ideal amount of revitalized nostalgia.
"Sun Support" is out now on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. I highly recommend adding it to your favorite summer playlist and pretending you're on a beach under swaying palm trees. Or if you're already on a beach (I'm jealous), pop in your headphones and check out "sun Support" to round out your 2021 summer experience.
