Putting her heart out on her sleeve, Liv Byrne’s new track “Walk By” showcases a celestial take on a vulnerably bittersweet break up. Departing slightly from her recent dark pop, break up songs, Byrne‘s versatility is highlighted through the variety in her recent releases.
“Walk By” begins with sounds of warm synths in the distance. Within the first 30 seconds it’s clear that this is not the same sharp, vengeful break up energy we’ve seen from Byrne recently. She’s created a buoyant, ethereal atmosphere with this track that creates thrilling contrast within her canon of works. There is also a new sweetness in her lyrics, looking back wistfully at a relationship this seems to have been a ’wrong place, wrong time’ scenario. The ebb and flow of the instrumentation that accompanies these lyrics uplifts and supports the story with ease. The strings are possibly my favorite addition, giving “Walk By” a regal, Bridgerton-esque quality. All in all, “Walk By” is an exciting new addition that adds a fresh perspective to Liv Byrne’s repertoire.
