You Know My Name

Macon, Georgia musician, Joey Stuckey, is known for his drive and love of music. Growing up blind, he never let physical impairments stand in the way of his passion, learning guitar at the age of 14 and creating a recording studio in his home as a young kid. Since then, Stuckey has had much success, including but not limited to becoming the official music ambassador for his home town and opening shows for many respected music acts.

“You Know My Name” is a husky, yearning piece that captures a man’s basic desires when overcome by attraction. Complete with elements of soul, jazz and rock music, the song is not bound to one genre. The instrumentation is clean and layered well — I especially enjoy the clarity of the guitar and the sultry wailing timbre that comes from Stuckey’s playing style. Vocally, Joey Stuckey has a very supported singing approach, belting out his woes and using just enough growl to accent the lyric without sounding vocally abrasive. Apparently his mother favored opera, and it seems like he may have picked up some of the phrasing and breathing techniques from that style. The resulting sound has a resonant, booming sustain through the piece. Overall, Joey Stuckey’s “You Know My Name” personifies the feeling of desire and empowerment through music.
